What is the Mental Health First Aid Refresher Course
The Mental Health First Aid Refresher course, accredited by Mental Health First Aid England, is designed for qualified Mental Health First Aiders looking to revisit and strengthen their skills. MHFA England recommends all First Aiders complete a refresher every three years to ensure their knowledge stays current and their confidence to support others remains high.
Course Outcomes
By attending the course, Mental Health First Aiders will renew their skills and update their knowledge of mental health support. They’ll learn to:
- Recognise those who may be experiencing poor mental health and provide first-level support and early intervention
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other support
- Practise active listening and empathy
- Have conversations with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
- Discuss the role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
- Practise self-care
- Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
- Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England®
- Learn beyond the course through membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders
How does an open course work?
An open course allows organisations to enrol selected employees onto a course alongside participants from other businesses. This format can be more cost-effective than booking a private session when you only need to train a small number of employees.
Who is it for?
This course is designed for existing Mental Health First Aiders who have previously completed an MHFA England certification and are looking to refresh their skills and knowledge. A previous MHFA England certification is required to attend.
