What is mental health awareness training?


This half-day course is an introductory session designed to raise awareness of mental health and build skills and confidence around supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace. Participants will gain an understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma, develop basic knowledge of common mental health issues, and learn how to look after their own mental health while maintaining wellbeing. The course will build confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue, putting mental health on the same footing as physical health in the workplace.

Course objectives

  • Develop a deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing
  • Learn what mental health is and understand the Mental Health Continuum
  • Identify factors which affect mental health and challenge stigma
  • Understand stress and stress management techniques
  • Recognize signs of distress in others
  • Gain knowledge of common mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide, and self-harm
  • Explore the concept of recovery and supportive conversations
  • Learn the “Take 10 Together” approach to starting supportive conversations
  • Understand how to support mental health effectively in the workplace
  • Access useful statistics and helpful resources for ongoing support
